These individual supervision sessions are one hour in length and are typically conducted on a weekly basis. In some cases, dyadic (two LLMFT's) and/or bi-weekly supervision may be conducted.

Pass a Criminal Background Check
Accrue atleast 1,000 TOTAL hours of direct client contact (ie. in person or virtual sessions with clients) that is supervised by a LMFT after graduating graduate school
500 of those hours must be with couples, families, or other subsystems
The other 500 of those hours can be with individuals
Complete supervision requirements
One hour of supervision by a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) is required for each 5 hours of direct client contact, leading to a minimum of 200 hours of supervision (100 of those hours must be individual or dyadic supervision, while the other 100 of those hours can be in groups of 3-6 supervisees)
Pass the National MFT Exam (AMFTRB)
It is a 4-hour, 180-question, multiple-choice test covering six core domains: systemic therapy practice, assessment/diagnosis, treatment planning, evaluation/termination, crisis management, and legal/ethical standards.

Complete Continuing Education & License Renewal
Currently, the law for Marriage & Family Therapy does not require continuing education for renewal. You are responsible for maintaining your competence in your profession, but you do not have to demonstrate the ways you are doing that for renewal. However, you are required to meet the implicit bias and human trafficking requirements.
